This Is The End!

First and far most I would like to talk about Pan's Labyrinth.

This Photo is what caught my eyes in the first place, it made me wonder what this was about. This was the first movies ive watched where i reallly payed attention to Color and the Hues that complimented the scene.
The Costume used here was Sci-Fi with reality. The Impact it had on me was it took me away from my comfort zone and made me realize that there is more out there than my typical movies I watch.\

Second I enjoyed watching Double Idemnity as probably one of the first Monochrome movies i have seen in a while.

Movies back then all had this same feeling as to how the actors would speak. Dont get me worng but they are still enjoyable and come to appreciate how movies are now. The camera work was still good for the limited resources they had. Film Noir was a new word for me prior to taking this class and it was a dark film. This picture perfectly describes what happened in the film.

Last but not least lets talk about Pulp Fiction.

This social media app I use called The Chive uses pulp fiction as a reference for a meme a lot so it was nice to see this film being on the list. Not only did it have great actor in it but the way the movie was directed was smooth. I would say that the Camera Position in this film was one of the major components the film used. They took a lot of the negative space and made us focus more on the idea that was being portrayed.

3 Movies I would recomend would be The Good Dinosaur, Grid Iron Gang and Deadpool.

Good Dinaousr was really nice like I mentioned on my first Post of the semester. it uses very little dialouge and makes us see the film for what it is. The animation was great!

Grid Iron Gang is a nice sports movie to watch that demonstrates a lot of discipline. The camera work of being able to capture the running experience from the charcters was nice. It made you feel as if you were there.

Deadpool is a good movie showing first person angle shots and close ups talking to the audience.
There is slow motion picture in the film and the sound is influenced by his personality.

George Miller Interviewed on The Treatment

Before the movie "Mad Max: Fury Road" I had no idea who the director George Miller was. I began to hear how good of a movie this was and seeing it was nominated a lot at this years Oscars, I had to hear about the interview on The Treatment about Miller. Elvis Mitchell has know Miller for over 40 years and this isn't the first time he has interviewed Miller before. The interview i listened to took place in February 24 2016.

What I found interesting right off the bat was that George Miller got introduced to film due to his curiosity. I learned that he likes to play around with the angles while making a film. Most of George Millers inspiration in making this film was from the fact that he loves cars and grew up with open roads.

In the movie Mad Max: Fury Road I feel like George Miller did a great job in taking up space in the whole screen to give his audience something to see. As he states "Create a much sense of volume 3D volume of a 2D screen" he does just that. He felt that the way the angle was it would take up much more space than going from the X-Y plane so he likes to go through the Z plane and he found himself doing it unconsciously. I feel that sometimes greater things come when you arent as focused on it. What i mean by that is if Miller was actually working just to make the 3D stand out more he would look out for more mistakes and try to perfect it but the outcome might not have been the same.

Mad Maxx: Fury Road had a variety of unique cars and that was one of the passions Geroge Miller had. He was able to combine his love for cars and film and make it into one masterpiece film. Miller states that he got the idea when he said "Grew up in Australia with big endless roads" Mad Max was in a big open road environment and just like he grew up with his Hot Rods, they were in the film. Its nice to see that some directors can put what they like into the eyes of the audience.

Movies have come a long way and when George Miller says that a movie  is like "Its public dreaming" made me realize that he is right. We get to see someones imagination into a film and get an understanding for what they intended to show. When we read a book we picture what its like in our head so we day dream, a film is someones day dream in the big screen. I feel that this was probably one of the best things I got out of Miller and will begin to see it this way next time i see a film.

I enjoyed listening to what George Miller had to say. It was nice knowing where some of these directors get their ideas and how they sometimes look up to other directors and get ideas from them as well. I also like how Miller combined both his passions and made them into one film. He showed that it doesnt  take a big budget to make a great movie when he made the first Mad Max. You have to have will to make it great abd as best as you can. He did it with as little as 30 people and its a film people still talk about when The new Mad Max came out.

Dark Movies

Darkness... A powerful word. To my understanding films that had darkness in them fell under Film Noir. Director Errol Morris caught my attention twice. When he was talking about the film "Out of Past" Morris mentions " We don't know whats going on but we do know its something bad is out there controlling events" In the beginning of the film "Double Indemnity" when the Walter and Phyllis were somewhat throwing out hints they were interested in one another, I felt like something was up because she was a married women and being very flirty. Morris also said " A person who finds himself caught in a nut the more he falls in" Well, Walter was digging up more info as the film dragged along and now it lead him to get into the picture more and take matters into his own hands after he figured out what Phyllis true intentions were.

Agghh Phyllis was sure tricky! I did not see her giving us a twist at the end. I thought she was only doing the husband dirty to be with Walter but it was all a set up! As Jenny Place mentions "Man have always been in danger of a strong female" and that fits the description of femme fatale. Just as i mention that Walter was just someone to do the deed Place says " She uses her sexuality to get what she wants, what she wants is not the man, the man is a tool" In the film "Double Indemnity" That's exactly what Walter was. Phyllis used her beautiful looks to get what she wants. She set it up just for her convenience.

I feel like the lights and shadow does change the mood in a film. The black and white gives it a mysterious feeling towards the movie. When color was added to Neo-Noir films i feel like the mysterious feeling faded away or are not as strong as the black and white films. I believe would say John Bailey met my expectations when they introduced color when he says "color brings in a certain relationship to the world, the real world is in color" it is true, we feel like it is in our time and makes you have a better visualization than a black and white film.

Why have movies evolved as they have now? Simple, they are very interesting. For most people it might give them a sense of a different life. Helps one see the world or a fantasy world outside of theirs. What makes a movie an award winning movie? For starters I can say it catches the viewer and keeps them hooked wanting for more! The movie has to be able to show you something you have never watched before. Actors also can have a big role in making a movie as I point out later on.
For example, the short film "Le voyage dans la lune" I watched showed me a how life was thought to be on the moon back in their time.
The short film "The Great Train Robbery" kept me hook wondering what those guys were up to and what was going to happen. It gave me a view of a life as a robber.

I recently watched a movie called "The Good Dinosaur" and throughout the whole movie I kept thinking to myself that this was "The Lion King" but of its time. I believe This deserves an award because it showed a connection with two completely different characters and yet made me feel like they were one.

It does not matter who you are the movie was made to be understood by anyone who has a scense of emotion.

"Wolf of Wall Street" is an award winning movie because of Leonardo Dicaprio. He is one of the main reasons this movie was as good as i though it was. Having a good actor with a "so-so" story, keeps the viewer entertained. He is a good actor so when a movie is able to provide someone good, they can throw in scene that will make the movie stand out.
This was a pretty funny scene and shows what one may think they are doing while under the influence but shows what really is going on.
